Richie Woodhall won a bronze medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics at light-middleweight and a gold in the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland before becoming a top-flight professional. Birmingham-born Richie won 26 of 29 professional contests, capturing the Commonwealth and European middleweight championships.
The highlight of his career came when he took the world WBC super-middleweight title from Thulani Malinga in 1998, winning a unanimous points decision. Richie decided to retire after being stopped in ten rounds by Joe Calzaghe in a WBO super-middleweight title fight in December 2000.
He has since become a regular ringside expert in the BBC team, and has developed an entertaining and enlightening after-dinner routine.
